Mowing the grass is something that Chris does a lot. But, he seems to really enjoy doing it. Especially now that he has a riding lawn mower! It really isn’t all that bad with one of those, but, we do have a lot of grass.

The other night, Chris took Bryce on the mower with him for a few rounds and Bryce loved it. He was so into it. You know how you can tell? His tongue is sticking out. Whenever he is really concentrating on something he does that.
Well, we had a great time at HCBF this year. We saw lots of new buses. We also saw my old burgundy passenger vanagon. It had been fixed up quite nice and of course, I was quite jealous! I have always wanted it back, but especially now!

We got to see Maggie and Larry from out west. It was great getting to spend time with them. Bryce just loves them too.

We saw some pretty sunsets and it never rained! Can you believe it? Almost always it rains at campouts, but the most we ever got was a slight sprinkling. The weather really turned out great.
When we first moved in to the house, we discovered an old Easy-Up awning at the back of the barn. It appeared to be in terrible condition, but we still wanted to get it out and see what we had. There was a wasp nest in it, so Chris had to take care of that first. When we finally got it out and figured out how to put it up we were so excited. It was REALLY dirty from being outside, but I just knew that I could clean it up. Sure enough, I used some of my special natural cleaning powers and the stains came right out—mostly. Even still we really enjoyed having it at HCBF. We had always wanted an Easy-Up and now we have one!
Fisher had a great time. He loves going to campouts because he gets so much attention from everybody there, especially the kids. There was another Great Dane rescue there this year, a female, and they met on occasion. Fisher was trying to play with her. She was, of course, much smaller, but he hadn’t been around another dog as big as him since Moose crossed the rainbow bridge.

Before we left, we took a group picture of us and Larry and Maggie. In each picture, Fisher kept doing something silly. In this one he looks as if he’s howling like a wolf.

Well, we finally had Bryce’s third birthday party–over a month late. His birthday was actually June 11–right during our move so we decided to delay the party. But, wow, what a fun time. I still wasn’t totally 100%, but had loads of help to get the party started from family.

This was Bryce’s FIRST party with kids there and I think that it was a complete hit with him. We had a pool party with a lot of his cousins there. All total, there were nine kids there, including two babies. All of the kids were third cousins from two sides of Chris’s family. We swam for a while and then fired the grill up for dinner. The ice cream, chocolate and vanilla, and cupcakes were already ready and waiting for us when we finished eating.

Then came the presents. Bryce was so excited! I think this birthday he was really involved and knew what was going on.

My Momma and Granny came for Bryce’s birthday party this weekend. I am SO glad they did. I wanted them to see our new house AND I just needed my Momma. Doesn’t everyone need their Momma every now and then? I sure do!
They arrived Friday around five something and we immediately toured the “grounds†and she told me all the plant names of things I didn’t know. There were a lot of plants and trees that she didn’t know, but found out later.
Chris got home and we cooked some excellent fresh-picked corn that they had brought from Manteo. We also had cucumbers and fresh tomatoes. It was great. We made forty-eight cupcakes after that for Bryce’s party. It took forever to make them because I only had one muffin pan.
We had a great time just hanging out and the next day at the party. Saturday night we drove home to our house and Sunday we spent time together and hung out. I was so glad for that time. It wasn’t too rushed and we didn’t over plan. Sunday night we did drive into downtown Greenville and showed them the Reedy River, waterfall and suspension bridge.
We are looking forward to High Country Bus Festival in Boone. Mostly because we can’t wait to see our friend Larry Chase that we met on our trip. He and Maggie are coming to the east coast for him to get a Subaru engine conversion put in his vanagon. They are going to be at HCBF all weekend so we will get to see them.
Our friends Jason and Stephanie Laster (and their four kids) have moved to Denver and won’t be there. It just won’t be the same without them. They had a lot in common with us and will be missed. I guess that means we will just have to venture out and meet more people now!
Well, Chris didn’t go to work on Monday and he called his mom Shirley to come down and stay with me and Bryce for a couple of days. I had somebody to vent to emotionally, somebody to keep me company and somebody to play with Bryce. And of course, Shirley loved every minute of it. She cleaned house, read to Bryce and most importantly—got up early with Bryce when he woke up and allowed me to sleep in some. I was grateful to have somebody here during a not-so-great time.
The last night that she was here we decided to get out of the house and go downtown for dinner. We went to the Overlook Grill right on the Reedy River waterfall. We had a great time. We had the waterfall on one side of the outdoor patio, a flower garden on the other side and a guy playing guitar for background music. And the food was pretty good too!
Well, our pregnancy just wasn’t meant to be. We had a miscarriage. I was almost ten weeks. I have a peace about it now, but the grieving will probably last a little longer. God always knows best and evidently I just wasn’t supposed to have that baby. We will get through this and try again.
Well, if you were to walk into our family room now, and you have been to our old house, you would definitely get some deja vu. Today, Chris painted our family room the exact same color that we had in Cary—guacamole. We always loved that color so it just seemed natural that we would paint the same color here. Now, the room is coming together.
We have also been doing some other work around the house. I have decided to convert our little patio area outside into my own private Belizean paradise! We have hammocks, a couple of old school metal chairs that we painted, and some citronella candles. I’d like to put up some Christmas lights and maybe some bamboo shades.
The kitchen is probably going to be our next endeavor. It seriously needs some updating. The counters are country blue. There is not much you can do with country blue countertops except live with them (or spend a lot of money and replace them). So, we have come up with some creative color combinations for painting the cabinets and walls. We’ll see how it turns out!
If it is any hint as to what Bryce will do when he is older, I declare now that he will a book editor. No kidding, the kid loves to read! I must read to him fifteen minutes of every hour of the day sometimes. He has gotten to where is also loves to take books to bed with him for his nap and at bedtime too. BUT, now sometimes he doesn’t actually sleep—he reads to himself for several hours.
We are finding it very difficult to find a church down here. That is pretty funny considering that our neighboring county, Greenville county, has the most churches of any county in the entire United States. Our county, Pickens, has to have almost as many!
We have visited several so far and we just haven’t found one that fits us. We will keep searching, but I do pray that we will find something soon. I am itching to get meet other moms and couples. It does get pretty lonely when you don’t know anybody.
